The Public Affairs Department consists of two key programs:

The Focus on Community Safety Program encourages members to take an active interest in home and vehicle safety, present safety information programs to members, and encourage citizen action in regards to safety issues facing their communities. The program also focuses on raising awareness on issues of violence against women, youth and young children, and supports services offered to victims of violence.

The Citizenship in Action Program works to educate members and others about the importance of active citizenship. Under this program, members create nonpartisan voter awareness, hold forums to discuss political issues, and teach the importance of voting and citizenship to young people. The citizenship Program also embraces causes dedicated to supporting our troops and veterans.

Candidates Forum:

The BWC hosted the Candidates Forum in March 2009 for Brentwood Council Election. The forum and reception took place on Monday evening, March 30th at 7 p.m. in the City Chambers at the Municipal Center on Maryland Way. Mr. Tom Lawrence of WAKM 950 Radio once again served as the moderator. Local media to serve on the media panel.

The forum was videotaped for future viewing on the City of Brentwood's public access channel. It was an evening for our club to shine, and we asked all members to attend and support this public event. The reception for all participants, their guests, and members of the audience followed the forum. Participation by the members of the BWC included providing food and greeting our guests along with replenishing plates of goodies, serving punch and cleaning up.

It was a wonderful effort by BWC member Margie Jones who organized the event and all the participating BWC members helping prior to and during the event.. The BWC was proud to receive numerous compliments for a job well done in serving our community.

Public Affairs Decorates the Burn Center at Vanderbilt Hospital: The Monday before Thanksgiving Phyllis Streiff, Betty Walton, Margie Jones, Connie Campbell, Dawn Kincaid and Nona Weatherby learned what it is to give. They met to carpool to Vanderbilt and shared the start of the holiday season in a way that emphasizes the good in the world. This is a project of giving and understanding of how much we have. Three trees were decorated in the burn unit for the enjoyment of the patients, visiting family members and staff. This is one of those projects that makes everyone feel good.

Vanderbilt Burn Center's 25th Anniversary Celebration: The Brentwood Woman's Club membership has received an invitation to attend Vanderbilt Burn Center's 25th Anniversary Celebration. The celebration will be held on Sunday November 9, 2008, from 4-6:00 p.m. in the Light Hall - North Lobby. Refreshments will be served. Parking is available in the East Garage. If you are interested call Kathy Casey.

Thank you to our special Santa, Betty Walton, for being the liaison between our club and BRIDGES. We appreciate your hard work Betty! Please remember to bring your wrapped gifts, with tags attached to the outside, to our December Holiday Luncheon on December 4th at Brentwood Country club.
